Spirituality and Diet
Can they be separated? It is interesting that in an age that often does all it can to convince us that connections to the ancient past, particularly as they relate to enlightened and forward thinking ideas, are few and far between. Many of us grew up with the impression that all our forefathers were hunter gatherers, leaving the cave on a daily basis, grunting their way through the undergrowth and bringing back their conquered prey for the family to gorge – was that really the case? How perceptive were our ancient ancestors to the benefits of a vegetarian diet both as it related to health, economics, sustainability and ethics? Indeed were they even more perceptive than we are today wherein only 3% of TV ads promote a healthy diet and with up-to 75% of our youth living on fast/junk food? It is also interesting to note that out of 4 years of medical training, doctors, on average, are given 3 hours of nutritional tuition. Our presentation will explore these questions a little further and strive to give a somewhat different perspective on this subject than is often the case.
